She asked him to tell the bishop that she wanted a church built there. But the bishop was skeptical when he heard the news. The Blessed Virgin then told Juan to pick a bunch of roses that were blooming on the hill in the middle of winter. Juan carried the roses in his tilma and when he opened his cloak to show the bishop, all could see an image of Our Lady imprinted there! Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of Saint Juan Diego, who never doubted the Blessed Virgin, but did everything that Our Lady asked him to do. Level 1 books in the Footsteps of the Saints series are about 32 pages each and are written as read-alouds for your beginning readers at about a second grade reading level. The print size is large to make it easier to read for young readers, and there are many wonderful illustrations to give a visual for your younger children who are listening. Br.
