As a young boy, he often got into trouble. After his parents died, Camillus decided to change the foolish life he was leading. He wanted to become a soldier, but the army would not accept him. Camillus then started to work in a hospital. There, he realized that hospital workers needed to be motivated by charity. Later, Camillus became a priest and founded an Order. Symbolized by a red cross on the cassock, it was called the Company of the Servants of the Sick. Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of Saint Camillus, who saw each person as a child of God and cared for their needs. Level 1 books in the Footsteps of the Saints series are about 32 pages each and are written as read-alouds for your beginning readers at about a second grade reading level. The print size is large to make it easier to read for young readers, and there are many wonderful illustrations to give a visual for your younger children who are listening. Brother Ernest C.S.C.
